Head in the Cloud (City)•

It is Sunday morning before Lando day and I have a huge list of things that I need to do, but then again I always do. Honestly, the last thing I want to do right now is cut more fridge panels for the second walk-in so I am going to procrastinate and write a blog post… a short one. I want June 20th’s Lando Day, which is our 4th birthday, to be an anniversary but also SFBC’s own day of thanks and appreciation. Appreciation for what we have accomplished with so very little. When I look at what we have done in comparison to other breweries out there, it honestly blows my mind that we are still here. And so my appreciation is to all the people who have come out to homebrew awards ceremonies, bottle shares, soft openings, grand soft openings, poetry readings, Ethiopian beer dinners, Short Cans and so many more random things that my mind thought were a good idea at some point. I swear I will have an official last grand opening some day.
If you have been by the shop in the last few months, you may or may not have noticed that I have not been drinking. I am not going to get into the specific reasons why I'm taking this temporary hiatus, but more so into the reasons why it has made me want to make an additional effort to be thankful. Please don’t worry, my physical health is fine and I’ll be making a triumphant return to beer somewhere down the line. Constantly being around by something I love but being unable to partake, though, has thrown off my mental health a little. I want to make a concerted effort to be positive about and thankful for everything that we have achieved at Short Finger. To focus on gratitude.
If you can come out on Thursday, you are in for a treat. We are going to be dropping the two best Lando batches to date (you don’t have to believe me, though, I just make it). We are also dropping Cloud City for the hop heads. It is a double dry hopped raw oat Pale Ale. During the evening, we will be selling club sandwiches made by the team at Arabella Park and offering secret magnum pours by donation, with all proceeds going to KW Clubs for Brain Cancer. If you haven’t heard about this important city-wide fundraiser, please do look it up and support however you can. Lando Day runs from 5-9pm, with an afterparty happening at Arabella.
I am thankful for all the support from this community, and from Kat, Mike and Stu who keep me sane and make sure 20 Hurst runs. I am thankful that I get to make Lando.
We won’t lie, it was a nice break. Social media can be a ton of fun, but it is also exhausting to run for a small business. For us, a month away wa...Read More
